The Town of Prentiss is accepting donations for Louisiana flood victims.
Donations will be accepted until noon this Friday.
Acceptable items are bottled water, canned and other non-perishable food items, personal hygiene items and toiletries, baby supplies, pet food, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, blankets, pillows, towels, sheets, and other essential items.
No money and no clothing will be accepted.
Prentiss Fire Department has teamed up with Collins Fire Department to make sure items are delivered to those in need.
Three loads were taken to Collins from Prentiss last week.
“We are hoping to take two or three more before Saturday,” said Prentiss Fire Chief Howard Kelly.
The Collins Fire Department will make a second trip to Louisiana Saturday morning.
The first load Kelly took consisted of donations from Prentiss businesses.
Ramey’s donated a pallet of water.
The Jeff Davis County Co-Op donated a half-pallet of horse and cattle feed, and a half-pallet of dog food.
Hudson Drugs donated their entire stock of cleaning items for the victims.
Anyone interested in this cause can drop off items at the Prentiss Police Department by Friday at noon.
According to Kelly, one fire department in Louisiana lost everything.
Supplies from Collins and Prentiss were taken to St. Amant, a small community outside of Gonzales.
All fire stations in this community were flooded and all 100 plus volunteer firefighters lost their homes to the flood waters.
The St. Amant community was overwhelmed by the support and sent their sincerest “thank yous” back to Prentiss.
