There have been several unexpected changes taking place at here at The Headlight.

Our papers are now being printed in Vicksburg instead of Brookhaven.

This affects a whole lot of things, but mainly time.

The papers have to get to Brookhaven from Vicksburg first and foremost. Once the papers arrive in Brookhaven, paperwork has to be filled out, followed by a trip to the Brookhaven Post Office, before they can make their way to Prentiss.

Drops and pick-ups must be coordinated, and on a good day all the stars falling into place is rare. Throw in traffic, or issues with machinery, and we are sent into a tailspin. Thank goodness for that crisis counseling class!

For the last couple of weeks, I have loaded home delivery in my vehicle, so I can send RD to the stores and post offices. We are all three working as hard as we can to get your paper to you in a timely manner.

One Wednesday it took actually locking the door so Kim could go in a third direction to help meet deadlines. If you needed us that day, and we weren’t here, I apologize.

It has taken several weeks, and many late nights, but I think we have gotten the kinks worked out. Moving deadlines to fit our paper into the weekly printing routine in Vicksburg was a must. It might take some getting used to, but in order for us to meet postal deadlines and not require a couch in my office for therapy, that is the solution.

Our news deadline is now on Friday by 5 p.m. Church news deadline is Monday morning at 8 a.m. Ad deadline is now also Friday at 5 p.m. However, if you would like your ad in the Shopping Bag, the ad will need to be in by Friday at 9 a.m.

To those customers who were willing to overlook our issues the last few weeks, we can’t thank you enough for your patience. We have had tremendous support and we appreciate each kind word and remember who said it.

I have always said, I am not one for change, but once we become a “well oiled machine” again, it will be our new normal.

We know how important routine is and we are working to get everything back on track for our wonderful customers.
