A ribbon cutting took place recently on the steps of the new Jefferson Davis County Academic Center building.

The focus of the building is to offer advanced opportunities for all students in the JDC school district.

The Academic Center is home to a state of the art computer lab, where students will have the opportunity to complete dual enrollment courses, advanced placement courses, and/or distance learning.

Jefferson Davis County schools currently partner with Pearl River Community College and William Carey University to afford students a premier dual enrollment experience.

The building will also house the alternative placement course, which is a program centered around a new online learning path called Odysseyware.

In addition to these technologically astute opportunities, fine art activities, such as debate and chorus, will be provided in the new building.

The center is adjacent to the Dennis W. Fortenberry Career Center in Carson.
