Saints shut out Rebels

The Saints hit the road for the second week in a row.  They traveled south to Amite County to face the Rebels of ASC.  Anytime Prentiss plays Amite things are going to be physical regardless of the outcome.  The Saints won the coin toss and elected to receive.  The Rebels opening kick went out of bounds, but the Saints declined the penalty and forced ASC to kick again from five yards farther

back.  The following kick was fielded by Eric Powell at the 27 yard line and returned to the 45 yard line of the Rebels.  Austin Daughdrill opened things up with an eight yard carry, but the momentum quickly faded as consecutive one yard losses resulted in a turnover on downs at the Rebel 36 yard line.  Amite did not fare any better on their opening drive as the defense held them to minus two yards on the series.  Following a false start on fourth down, the Rebels punt was fielded by Powell who was brought down at the PCS 22 yard line.

The Saints offense was still a little sluggish and could not gain yardage on the series.  Blake Greenlee was called upon to punt for Prentiss.  The punt returner was tackled immediately at the Rebel 43 yard line.  The Rebs snapped the ball high on first down resulting in a twelve yard loss.  A short two yard gain on second down brought about third and thirty-three to go.  Prentiss brought the pressure and sacked the ASC quarterback forcing a fourth down punt by the Rebels.  The punt was downed on the 41 yard line of the Rebels.  Daughdrill and Powell got the carries moving the ball to the ASC 38 yard line, but a holding penalty backed them up to the 48 yard line.  Greenlee hit Powell on a twenty-nine yard pass, but another penalty negated the gain.  The Saints faced a third and twenty situation.  An incomplete pass forced another PCS punt.  Greenlee’s punt was downed after thirty-eight yards.  Amite managed six yards before having to punt back to Prentiss.  After the 41 yard punt, Prentiss started on their own 40 line.  A short run by Daughdrill opened up for a twelve yard pass to Josh Daley on second down.  Daughdrill, Sumrall and Holder got small chunks back to back before Powell broke a thirty-one yard touchdown run around the end.  Daley added the PAT giving Prentiss a 7-0 lead with 8:43 to play in the second quarter.

Daley’s kickoff went out of bounds putting the ball on the 35 yard line for the Rebels.  Amite got small gains up to the 49 yard line, but the defense stiffened and the Rebels had to punt back to Prentiss.  The thirty-one yard punt was downed on the 17 yard line of Prentiss.  A loss on first down put the Saints in pass mode as Greenlee hit Daley on a nineteen yard strike.  Greenlee went to the air again on first down, but the pass fell incomplete as a result of pass interference against the Rebels.  The Saints were given a first down at the ASC 49 yard line.  Sumrall and Powell pounded out the yards on the ground to the 32 yard line.  Back to back passes from Greenlee to Daley took care of the rest.  A twenty-one yard pitch and catch gave PCS a 13-0 lead with the PAT to follow.  Daley nailed the next kickoff well into the end zone forcing the touchback and giving Amite the ball on their own 20 yard line.  The Rebels put together their most impressive drive of the night working all the way to the Saint 28 yard line.  However, four consecutive incompletions gave the ball back to the Saints.  With less than a minute to play in the half, the Saints took to the air again.  Greenlee hit Powell for a twenty yard gain moving the ball to the 48 yard line.  Greenlee’s next pass was intercepted by the Rebels and returned into Saints territory.  With time for one more play, Amite went deep, but Smith was there for the Saints intercepting the ball as time expired on the clock.

Daley started the second half with a forty-eight yard kickoff to the twelve yard line of Amite.  Good coverage stopped the Rebels return at the 25 yard line of Amite.  The Rebels earned up to the 30 yard line, but could go no farther.  On fourth down, ASC punted the ball twenty-seven yards downing the ball on the 43 yard line of Prentiss.  Daughdrill wasted no time gaining seventeen yards on first down followed by a nine yard gain by Holder.  On third and one to go, Greenlee found Sutton on a thirty-one yard touchdown pass in the corner.   Daley’s PAT missed its mark holding the score at 20-0 at the 8:37 mark of the third quarter.  Daley’s kickoff went forty-four yards and the kicking team allowed no return.  The Saint defense forced a quick three and out.  Following a forty-six yard punt and a twenty-three yard return by Powell, the Saints had the ball back in their possession.  A holding penalty during the return would move the ball back to the 45 yard line of Prentiss.  There was little room on the ground this series so Greenlee went the skies again finding Daley on a twenty-five yard pass to the Amite 21 yard line.

The Rebels clogged up the ground game again forcing a third and eight situation for the Saints.  Greenlee had consecutive incompletions which turned the ball over to the Rebels at their own 19 yard line.  After only four yards on the drive, the Rebels had to punt back to the Saints.  The forty-two yard punt was downed on the 35 yard line of the Saints.  A rejuvenated Saints offense took to the ground gaining large chunks of yardage on every carry by Sumrall and Daughdrill.  Prentiss drove all the way to the 17 yard line, but Amite put up a stone wall forcing a forth and four situation for the Saints.  A hard count by Greenlee made the Rebels jump off sides giving Prentiss a first down at the twelve yard line.  Daughdrill took the next carry into the end zone for another PCS touchdown.  Daley added the PAT giving Prentiss a 27-0 lead with 11:52 to play in the game.  An out of bounds kickoff gave the Rebels their next possession on the 35 yard line.  After gaining only three yards, Amite elected to punt again.  The Rebel punt was downed after only twenty-nine yards.  Twenty-six yards of rushing by Daughdrill and sixteen more by Holder set up a twenty-five yard touchdown rush by Powell.  Daley missed the PAT, but the Saints had a commanding 33-0 lead with 7:27 left to play.  After a forty-eight yard kick and a twelve yard return, the Rebels started their next drive on the 25 yard line.  Nominal gains by the Rebels inched them along, but a facemask penalty gave them a fifteen yard gain up close to mid field.  The defense picked back up and stopped the drive at the 46 yard line of the Saints.  PC took back possession of the ball with only 2:49 left to play.  At this point, the Saints second team offense hit the field ready to make a mark.  Wade Watkins and Steven Colson would share the carries as they milked the clock ending the game and finishing off another win for the Saints.  Prentiss returns home this week for their first district matchup of the season against Sylva Bay Academy.
