Rev. Onetta J. Jackson

Rev. Onetta Justine Jackson was a native of Columbia, MS. She was born July 14, 1914 to the late James Walter Washington and Mamie Stokes Washington. She departed this life on August 21, 2016. She was one of ten siblings.

Sister Jackson accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and joined Blue Springs Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, where she remained faithful in her health failed.  She served in many capacities to include:  Missionary Society, Stewardess Board and Sunday School Teaching Ministry.

She was married to the late Rev. Hezekiah Jackson.

She attended school in Marion County, and continued her education at Alcorn State and Jackson State Universities.  She taught in the Marion and Jefferson Davis Counties Public School District for many years.

After accepting the call into Ministry of Teaching and Preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Rev. Jackson was pastor of Blackmon Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Carson, MS for 17 years.  Under her leadership, the church grew in membership and spirituality.  During this period, the current church building structure was established.

She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings:  Ada Jones, Ed Willie Washington, Inez Thompson, Fleeter Russell, Elvenus Washington, Meltarus Washington, and Lethal Miller.

Rev. Onetta Jackson (Aunt Justine), loving memories will always be cherished by her sister Naomi Washington of St. Louis, Missouri and a brother Harry ( Jimmy Lee) of Akron, Ohio and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Thoughts she left many lasting memories, she will always be remembered for her common phrase “Be Sweet and Kind to one Another.”

Rev. Jackson was dedicated Christian and Spiritual leader who God with all of her heart.

Services were held Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Blue Springs CME Church with burial in the Blue Springs Community Cemetery. Services entrusted to Smith Funeral Home Columbia, MS.
