The driver of the car, Brandon Flowers, is currently at Forrest General Hospital in critical condition.

According to the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Department, a deputy observed a vehicle crossing the yellow line multiple times on Highway 35.

The deputy pulled the car over with no intention of writing a ticket, but to simple check on the condition of the driver. He approached the driver’s window and asked that he roll it down. The back door of the vehicle opened and the deputy immediately closed it with the back of his leg.

At that point, the driver sped off toward Covington County.

The deputy followed the G6 to Highway 84 and called the Covington County Sheriff’s Department to inform them of the situation.

After turning on Lone Star Road, the deputy saw smoke, then arrived at the accident scene. He and several neighbors extinguished the fire and rendered aid until medical personnel arrived on the scene.

According the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff Ron Strickland, Flowers will be charged with three counts of vehicular manslaughter, possession of a firearm by a felon and felony fleeing.

“We hate this incident happened and that three lives were lost. It is a tragedy for our community. I want everyone to understand that blue lights do mean something. All you have to do is stop,” said Strickland.
