The Prentiss Headlight / Terri Stamps, Bobby Wilson, and Towonder Applewhite won local races in Tuesday’s election.

 

There will be two new Jefferson Davis County School Board members effective January 1.

Terri Stamps defeated Jessie Holloway 605 votes to 535 for school board District 1. Stamps received 53.02 percent of the votes to Holloway’s 46.89 percent.

In the District 2 school board race, Bobby Wilson received 652 votes giving him 52.12 percent of the votes.  Larry ‘Joe’ Thompson received 359 votes, with Billy J. Boleware receiving 239.

In another local race, Towonder Applewhite won the District 3 election commissioner’s post receiving 56.90 percent with 726 votes. Bertile Price collected 547 votes.

Election commissioners running unopposed were District 1 Linda J. Speights, District 2 Ralph J. Hanegan, District 4 Stephen Abram, and District 5 Earnest Rankin Jr.

Hillary Clinton took Jefferson Davis County with 3,703 votes to Donald Trump’s 2,462.

According to Jefferson Davis County Circuit Clerk Clint Langley, voter turnout was high.

There were approximately 6,191 votes cast, which is 62.80 percent of registered voters.

There were approximately 785 absentee ballots.

These totals include machine totals and absentee ballots combined.
