Mary Alice Williams

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, at South Pleasant Hill M. B. Church for Mary Alice Williams, 71, who died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016, at Regency Hospital in Hattiesburg. Rev. Eric D. Williams officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Alice Williams was born to the late Johnny and Maggie Hawthorne. She accepted Christ and joined Prentiss First Baptist Church at a young age. She received her education from Jefferson Davis County Schools and Prentiss Institute.
She was married to the late Carnell Williams, Sr. and four children were born. She moved her membership to South Pleasant Hill M. B. Church where she served on the nurse’s guild, kitchen committee, and member of the choir. She worked many years at KLH Industries until her health failed her.
Williams was preceded in death by: brothers, Johnnie Hawthorne Jr. and J. W. Hawthorne, Sr.; grandson, Ellis D. Williams and great-granddaughter, Zoey Green.
She is survived by two sons, Carnell (Teresa) Williams Jr. and Jerry (Verna) Williams, both of Prentiss; two daughters, Marylin (D J) Weathersby of Prentiss, and Mary (Jimmy) Griffith of Hattiesburg; seven grandchildren, Jana, Myya, Mundrai, Rashad, Kaleah, Kobe and Jaden; one brother, Charles (Ethel) Hawthorne of Prentiss; one sister-in-law; three brothers-in-law; many other relatives and friends.
