A vacancy left by the unexpected death of  Prentiss Alderman Todd Broome will remain unfilled for two more weeks.

A run-off will be held Tuesday,  Jan. 24, between Rudolph “Rudy” McNease and Hal “Moochie” Speights. Both candidates failed to get the required 50 percent plus one vote needed to prevent a run-off.

McNease received 70 votes, Speights received 45.

A total of 204 voters cast their ballot of the 693 registered voters in the city limits.

Jamie H. Cochran received 34 votes, Levi K. McRaney received 27 votes, and Jennifer “LuLu” Traylor received 28 votes.

Prentiss City Hall will be open Jan. 14 and Jan. 21 from 8 a.m.until noon for absentee voting.
