Funeral services for Rev. Larry Washington Sr., were held on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at St. Paul M.B. Church in Silver Creek, with Rev. Robert Barnes officiating.  Burial was in the Lucas Community Cemetery. Laird Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Rev. Washington Sr., 61, died Monday Dec. 19, 2016, at the Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary, Louisiana.

Rev. Washington was the 14th child of 15 children born to the late Elder J.D. Washington and Karrie Young Washington of the Lucas community in Prentiss. At an early age, he joined the Lucas Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, and remained a member until he united with the St. Paul M.B. Church, where he was called into the ministry under the guidance of Rev. Kevin Langston. Rev. Washington graduated from Prentiss High School prior to working 31 years for Day Brook Off Shore of Emcine, Louisiana, until his health forced him into a medical retirement.

Rev. Washington was united into marriage with the late Earnestine Jackson of Prentiss, and to this union, three sons were added. After moving to Baker, Louisiana, Rev. Washington met and married the late Hester S. Washington, who preceded him in death.

Rev. Washington was a people person who taught himself how to play the keyboard and labored under the motto “ that serving the Lord will pay off after a while.”

Rev. Washington’s survivors include his three sons, Larry Washington, Jr., of Hattiesburg, Spencer W. Washington and Kerani Washington, both of Texas; one grandson, Larry Washington, III of Hattiesburg; three brothers, James (Mary) Washington of Chicago, Illinois, Clarence (Ollie) Washington of Collins and George Washington of California; four sisters, Rosie, Mabel, Trulie Washington, all of Chicago, Illinoois; and Margie Washington of California; and a number of other relatives and friends.
