Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at Saulters Moore Funeral Chapel in Prentiss, for Mrs. Johnnie Merle Walker, 84, of New Hebron who passed away Jan. 25, 2017, at her residence. Interment followed at Old Good Hope Cemetery in Mendenhall. Rev. Dewayne Mayo and Rev. Billy Bridges officiated. Saulters Moore Funeral Service handled arrangements.
Pallbearers were Tommy Walker, Jason Walker, Douglas Polk, Gary Turner, Andy Kennedy and Clint Roberts.
Johnnie Merle Roberts Turner Walker was born Feb. 15, 1932, to John Adam and Katie Bell Bridges Roberts. She was manager of Fantasy Fabrics in Collins for a number of years. She was a seamstress and a homemaker. She was a faithful Christian member of Lone Star UMC. She loved the Lord and her church family. She was well known for her chicken and dumplings there.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hilyer G. Turner; two brothers: Howard Roberts (Aline) and Henry (Peewee) Roberts (Shirley); one sister, Mary Lee Polk Martin (Delmas Polk) (Harlan Martin).
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Everett Walker of Collins; one son, Jimmy Terrell Turner, Sr. (Pat) of Collins; one daughter LaJuana Mullins (Danny) of New Hebron; one grandson Jim Turner (Summer), one great-grandson Carson Turner, one great-granddaugher Morgan Kate Turner, all of Madison; two sisters, Dixie Griffith (Preston), Wilma Chain (Larue) all of Lone Star; four step-daughters Brenda Rainey (Larry) of Mendenhall, Glenda Westmoreland (Kenneth) of New Hebron, Ann Ball (Jim) of Magee, Charlotte Stringer (Ken); one stepson Tommy Walker (Katie), all of Prentiss; 12 stepgrandchildren; 24 stepgreat-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
