Charlene Tyson Lucas

Mrs. Charlene Tyson Lucas, 87, died on Friday morning April 28, 2017, at her daughter’s home in Conroe, Texas. Services for Mrs. Lucas were held on Saturday May 6, 2017, at St. Paul M. B. Church in Silver Creek, with Pastor Phillip Clark officiating. Interment was in the Lucas Cemetery, with Laird Mortuary in charge of all arrangements.

Mrs. Lucas was the daughter of the late Ben Aaron Tyson and the late Isabella Lee Tyson of Osceola, Alaska. At an early age she joined the Union Valley M. B. Church and remained a member until she relocated from the area. Mrs. Lucas was a faithful member of her Bible study group at Union Valley Church, among numerous other activities.

Mrs. Lucas spent her formative years in northern Mississippi, where she finished high school at Mississippi Industrial College in Holly Springs, that offered both high school and college courses.

While attending Mississippi Industrial College, Mrs. Lucas met and married Smith D. Lucas of Silver Creek, and to this union three children were added. Mrs. Lucas moved with her husband to Silver Creek, where they both worked and flourished in secondary education. As an outstanding teacher, Mrs. Lucas held every student to high Performance standards at Greenwood school and Beulah Williams Elementary School in Silver Creek, until she retired along with her husband in 1989. Mrs. Lucas along with her husband, who preceded her in death in 2012, moved to Conroe, Texas, to receive care from their daughter because of their declining health.·

Mrs. Lucas’ survivors include her children, Smith Danny Lucas of McComb, WIllie Aaron (Evelyn) Lucas, and Janice Lucas (Huriah) Peyton of Conroe, Texas; four sisters; one brother; seven grandchildren; and a number of great grandchildren.
