Michael L. Courtney

Funeral services for Michael L. Courtney were held Friday, June 2, 2017, in St. Marys, Georgia. After a long battle with cancer, Mr. Courtney, 63, of Kingsland, Georgia died Saturday, May 27, 2017, at his residence.

Graveside services were held at the Brazell Cemetery in Camden County, Georgia. Rev. James Clendinan officiated.

Mr. Courtney was born at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas. on Sept. 18, 1953. He was the son of Master Sgt. Lawrence L. and Patricia A. Courtney. Michael was a master machinist and a U.S. Navy retired civilian. He was a professional drag racer known as “Big Block” and built his own race cars. He also loved his motorcycles and Corvettes.

Mr. Courtney spent many of his early summers with his grandparents Joe and Velma Courtney of Bassfield. He enjoyed many times with his Aunt Pabby (Patsy). Mr. Courtney is survived by his wife Patti Courtney, his mother Patricia Courtney, his daughter Kristin Courtney McCallister, granddaughter Kylianne, grandson Cameron; nephew Douglas (Destiny) Courtney, grandnephews Brandon and Michael; niece Nikole Courtney Roberts (Jason); and his aunt Patsy Courtney Carlisle (Jimmy). He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe and Velma Courtney, his father Lawrence L. Courtney, and his brothers Nathan E. and Douglas L. Courtney.
