School district to form education council

The Mississippi Department of Education has mandated that Jefferson Davis County School District create a P-16 (pre-kindergarten through college) Community Engagement Council.

The P-16 Council will give the community voice through policy recommendations to the school district to ensure a great education for all JDC students.

The meeting will be held Monday, Sept. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Academic Success Center in Carson.

All parents, legal guardians, students, community members, business owners, faith leaders and concerned citizens are urged to attend.

Attendees will help select representatives for the P-16 Council.

The mission of the Jefferson Davis County School District’s P-16 Community Engagement Council is to:

1. Provide a safe space and mechanism for community input in the Jefferson Davis County School District’s decision-making process,

2. Assist in the dissemination of data and information from the Jefferson Davis County School District to the general public,

3. Help coordinate the transmission of community priorities, needs, and opinions to the Jefferson Davis County School District’s Administration and Board of Trustees, and

4. Develop accurate assessments of the strengths and limitations of the Jefferson Davis County School District in order to recommend effective approaches to creating quality, healthy, and safe schools.
