HISTORY IS MADE, JAGS WIN IT ALL

The Jefferson Davis County Jaguars made their mark in history by winning the school’s first state championship just a mere 112 days after the school opened its doors after the consolidation of Bassfield and Prentiss high schools.

The Jags’ ended their season 15-1 and ranked number 10 in the state after defeating the Yazoo County Panthers in Oxford Saturday.

Sophomore Kyser Booth was named most valuable player at the conclusion of the game and senior Ronald Baker was presented with the C-Spire scholar athlete award.

Baker will also be playing in the Bernard Blackwell North and South All-Star game in Gulfport Saturday and was named first team defense on the Mississippi Association of Coaches’ All-State team.

Playing in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star game on Dec. 16 at USM will be Darryl Sims and Justin Ducksworth, who were also on the first team for the MAC all-state team. Ducksworth for offense, and Sims for defense.

Second team all-state defense players are Kameron Johnson and Malik Shorts.

Head coach Lance Mancuso has been named 3A coach of the year and will also be the head coach for the Mississippi-Alabama all-star game.

“These young men exceeded all expectations this season,” said Mancuso. “Their willingness to set aside personal differences makes this state championship the most special of all.”
