Funeral services were held Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Silver Creek M. B. Church, New Hebron for Mr. Lonzell Newsome, 54, who died Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at his residence.

Rev. Kevin Youngblood officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lonzell Newsome was born to the late Wilmon Smith and Stacey Lee Newsome in Jefferson Davis County.  He attended Prentiss Elementary and was a 1983 graduate of Prentiss High School. After graduating high school, he joined the National Guard. He was married to Rhonda Guy in 1998.  He worked for the Town of Prentiss, Jeff Davis Co-op, Lamar County Road Department and Lamar County School District.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Newsome; one son, Sedrod Gray of Jackson; two brothers, Ronald (Cynthia) McCollum of St. Louis, Missouri, and Orlando (Donnice) McCollum of Alorton, Illinois; three sisters, Carolyn (Tony) Bridges of Prentiss, Janice (Darryl) Oatis of New Orleans, Louisiana and Michelle Kisto of Parkton, North Carolina and many other relatives and friends.
