Durwood Harold Speights

Mr. Durwood Harold Speights, 84, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018, in Lucedale.

Durwood was born March 31, 1934, to Jesse and Lucille Speights in Bassfield, where he grew up. Durwood played basketball at Pearl River Junior College and served in the United States Air Force as Airman 1st Class.

He moved to the Pascagoula area in 1958 and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Pascagoula. He worked for 38 years at Paine Supply/Hughes Supply before retiring in 1996.

He was an avid NA- SCAR fan and back in the day always enjoyed chat- ting on the C.B. Radio.

He had a tremendous love for his family always courteous, supportive and a steadfast fixture in their life. Durwood was an absolute gentleman. After his retirement he could be found at Hardees for breakfast with his coffee buddies.

In addition to his par- ents he was preceded in death by his wife, Shir- ley Rachel Speights of 60 years; siblings, Jesse Doyle Speights, Juanita Loreese Speights and Ben- nie Speights Kerley and a grandson, Adam Wesley Speights.

He is survived by two children, Harold (Ninette) Speights of Hurley and Cari Speights of Fountain Hills, Arizona; two brothers, Larry (Sue) Speights of Satsuma, Alabama, and David Speights of San Carlos, Mexico; grand-children, Dustin (Emily) Speights and Christopher (Andrea) Speights both of Pascagoula and Dana Speights of Hurley, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation for Mr. Speights was Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, from 1-2:30pm at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Fu- neral Home in Pascagoula. Funeral Services were Saturday at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Bassfield, at 10:30am with a viewing at 10:00 a. m. Interment followed at the church cem- etery with military honors.
