Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at Lucas Tabernacle Church of Christ Holiness for Mr. St. Elmore Sutton, 84, who died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, at his resi- dence.

Elder Rufus Fields, pas- tor, officiated with inter- ment following in Lucas Cemetery in Silver Creek. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrange- ments.

Mr. St. Elmore Sutton is the son of the late William L. and Victoria Sutton.

He attended Prentiss In- stitute and joined the Air Force. He received his As- sociate in Arts and Educa- tion and Electronic Tech- nology from El Camino Community College in Hawthorne, California.

He met Queen Ester Bourne in grammar school and married in 1956 and moved to California. He worked with Southern California Edison Com- pany for 25 years. He was a Substation, First Opera- tor and served 26 years as an Air Force Reservist. He received many awards

from church, military and civic organizations.

Mr. Sutton united with Christ Temple Church of Christ Holiness of Los Angeles, California. Lat- er, he joined New Testa- ment Church of Christ Holiness where he served as chairman of the deacon board, Sunday School Su- perintendent and a choir member.

After moving back to Mississippi, he united with Lucas Tabernacle Church of Christ Holiness. He served as Treasurer of the National Sunday School, Treasurer of HYPU, Trea- surer of the Western Dio- cese, Treasurer of the Na- tional Mission Board, the President of the National Deacon Relief Board and Chairman of New Tes- tament Church Deacon Board and recently, Dis- trict and Lucas Sunday School Superintendent. He was president of the National Association Ad- vancement of Color Peo- ple (NAACP) of Jefferson Davis County.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Novella, Minnie, “B”ester, Alice Pearl, Alma Duffy and Delores Magee; brothers, Leon, Samuel Lee, Al- exander, Wade and L.W. Sutton, brothers-in-law, Emory Greene Jr. and Denise Howard; grand- daughter, Mitrice Rich- ardson-Sutton.

Mr. Sutton is survived by his wife of 61 years, Queen Ester Sutton of Silver Creek; children, Ava (Charles) Davis of Stockbridge, Georgia, Jonathan (Lauren) Sutton of Inglewood, California, Larry (Latrice) Sutton of Hattiesburg, Constance L. Sutton of Atlanta, Geor- gia and Phillip L. Sutton of Inglewood, Califor- nia; eight grandchildren;

three great-grandchildren; siblings, Thomas (Mary Etta) Sutton of Jackson, James M. Sutton of Jack- son, Bobby (Lois) Sutton of Jackson, Oliver (Pam) Sutton of Dacula, Georgia and Margaret Howard of Jackson; two sisters-in- law and many other rela- tives and friends.
