Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Elaine Martin Broome were held at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 11, 2019, at Green’s Creek Baptist Church.  Mrs. Broome, age 74, died Jan. 1, 2019, at home.

Barbara Elaine Martin Broome was born on Oct. 19, 1944, in Carson to James Harlon Martin and Delphia Mae (Dyess) Martin. She graduated from Bassfield High School in 1962. She attended cosmetology school and opened and operated her own shop and maintained her license for 50 years. She drove for the Jefferson Davis County School District as a bus driver for Bassfield schools for 25 years.

She was a member of Green’s Creek Baptist Church and a faithful servant for the Lord. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Broome was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her husband, Jerry Warren Broome.

Mrs. Broome is survived by one son, Jeffrey Warren Broome (Sarah) of Prentiss; one daughter, Stephanie Elaine Broome Cheaney of Ames, Iowa; five grandchildren, Joshua Broome, Justin Broome, Jonathan Tyler Broome, Katherine Cheaney, and Sean Cheaney; one brother, Kenneth Martin; two sisters, Shirley Roberts of Mt. Olive, Jeannette Copeland (Jerry) of Ellisville as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation was Jan. 11, 2019, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Green’s Creek Baptist Church.

The funeral service was officiated by Rev. Eddie Hartfield and Rev.Bob Burgess. Burial was in Green’s Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jerry Barrett, Ricky Barrett, Greg McRaney, Anthony Stuart, Lewis Stuart and Fred Worthy.

Honorary pallbearers were Donald Martin, Daniel Martin, Michael Martin, Marty Copeland, Ronnie Copeland and James Roberts.
