James “L.C.” Magee

Funeral services were held March 16, 2019, at Morning Star Baptist
Church in Columbia for Mr. James “L. C. “ Magee, 78, who died March
12, 2019, at Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg.
Rev. Kevin D. Russell Sr. officiated with burial following in Shorts
Chapel C.M. E. Church Cemetery, Carson.
Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. James Magee was born to the late John and Lucille Magee in Columbia.
He graduated from Marion Central High School in 1961.
He joined Morning Star M. B. Church where he served as a Sunday school
teacher, a member of the usher board, finance committee, president of
Brotherhood, adult choirs and Morning Star Gospel Singers.
His military career started when he was drafted in the United States
Army in 1963.
During his time of service of 24 years, he earned an Associates Degree
from Harford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland. He retired as
Master Sergeant (Grade E8) in 1987.
He was married to Carrie Lou Barnes and to this union two children were born.
He was preceded in death by step-mother, Leila; five siblings, John
Charlie, Ed Willie, Lottie Mae, Lourine and Carola Durr.
He is survived by wife, Carrie Lou; two children, Johnnie Sherryl
(Larry) Miller of Ft. Hood, Texas; James (Angela) Magee of Columbia;
three grandchildren, Jameka Bowman of Ashville, North Carolina, Andrew
and Caitlyn Magee both of Columbia; step-grandchild; step
great-grandchild; two brothers, Clifford (Ilean) Magee and Ray
(Johnnie Mae) Magee both of Columbia; two sisters, Mary Lampton of
Lake Charles, Louisiana and Annie Baylis of Oakland, California; many
other relatives and friends.
