High speed car chase comes to end in JDC

The Prentiss Headlight—A bag full of money totalling right at $99,000 was thrown out in a yard on Hwy 13 just south of Prentiss. The homeowner found the money and made an anonymous call in to the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Department.

The pursuit began in Marion County after Vega ran through several traffic devices at a high rate of speed and fled from Marion County deptuies. Vega is also being accused of tossing about $99,000 cash out in a yard just off Hwy. 13 south of Prentiss. The incident is currently under investigation.
A high speed chase that started in Marion County ended in Jefferson
Davis County last Thursday afternoon.
Prentiss Police Det. Richard Browning heard the call for assistance
from Marion County and entered the chase at Bethany Baptist Church on
Hwy. 13 South in Prentiss.
According to Browning, the chase accelerated to over 100 mph.
The suspect lost control on Hwy 184 just past the Hwy. 42
intersection. He then fled on foot through the woods.
Det. Browning and the Marion County deputy gave chase into the woods
approximately 250 yards when the subject was apprehended and placed in
custody.
Shortly thereafter, an anonymous call came into the Jefferson Davis
County Sheriff’s Department that a large sum of money had been thrown
out into a yard on Hwy. 13.
The JDC sheriff’s department turned the money over to Det. Browning,
who then released it to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The cash
totatled just under $99,000.
“We were happy to assist the Marion County Sheriff’s Department in the
pursuit and apprension of the subject, and thankful there were no
injuries to the officers or innocent citizens,” said Det. Browning.
“The 20 percent our department will receive for assisting in the
seizure will help greatly with new equipment we are hoping to purchase
in the near future.”
