Marjorie Lee Culver

Mrs. Marjorie Lee Barksdale Culver, 76, died May 7, 2019, in Jackson.
Services for Mrs. Culver were held on May 13, 2019 at Mt. Zion Ora MB
Church in Collins, with her son-in-law, Bishop Jeronn C. Williams, I,
as the eulogist.  Interment was in the Pleasant Grove C.M.E. Church
Cemetery, with Laird Mortuary in charge of all arrangements.
Mrs. Culver was a faithful member of Blackmon Temple C.M.E. Church in
Carson, for over 40 years. There, she served in various capacities
including Trustee, Board of Christian Education Director, Sunday
School teacher, Director of Vacation Bible School, member of the adult
choir and so much more.
She also expanded her reach and served in leadership for the
Missionary Society of the C.M.E. Church on the local, national, and
international levels.
In addition to her ecclesiastical resume, Marjorie was a most
auspicious educator in the State of Mississippi. She began her career
in elementary education in Hazlehurst, at John Jefferson High School.
She eventually extended her teaching career in the Jefferson Davis
County School District from which she graciously retired with 31 years
of teaching.
Having touched the lives and minds of several generations, she will
forever be remembered in this field and in Prentiss, as an
accomplished and distinguished educator.
Mrs. Culver was preceded in death by her parents, 10 siblings and her
wonderful husband, John A. Culver.
Her survivors include her two children, Kevin (Debora) Culver of
Canton,  and LaToya (Jeronn, I) Williams of Lithonia, Georgia; one
sister, Edna Langdon; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces,
nephews and other relatives and friends.
