Katherine Dillon White

Funeral services were held June 14, 2019, at Mt. Carmel M. B. Church
for Mrs. Katherine Dillon White, 82, who died June 5, 2019 at Asbury
Hospice House in Hattiesburg.  Rev. James Dampeer, pastor, officiated
with burial following in the Griffith Cemetery.  Johnson Funeral Home
was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Katherine White was born to the late Rufus and Nercelia Dillon of
Tylertown. She joined Mt. Moriah M. B. Church in Walthall County. She
graduated from Walthall County Training School and continued her
studies at Alcorn Agricultural & Mechanical College. She received her
Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics in 1961. She did
postgraduate work at the University of Southern Mississippi and
Mississippi State University.
Mrs. White started teaching in the Mississippi Delta and later moved
to Raleigh and taught Home Economics at Turner Chapel High School. She
met her husband, Rufus White and married in 1966; to this union a
daughter was born, Tunga White. After marriage, they relocated to
Jefferson Davis County where Mrs. White taught Home Economics, Family
Living, Special Education and Consumer Science.
Mrs. White was a member of Mt. Carmel M. B. Church, where she devoted
her time. She retired in 1996. She served as Sunday school teacher,
Vacation Bible School teacher, Assistant Financial Secretary and Chair
of the Dining Committee.  She served faithfully until her health began
to decline in 2018.
She was preceded in death by: one brother, Harrison Ball.
She is survived by: husband, Rufus White; daughter, Tunga White Otis;
siblings, Irene Magee, Etta R. Bell and Wilie (Rozunda) Youngblood;
many other relatives and friends; and her fur babies, Cookie and Lady.
