This year’s Prentiss Institute all school reunion,  held June 14-15 at
the Rosenwald Building at Prentiss Institute,  featured a love filled
presentation by alumni, family, friends, churches and community
organizations who joined together to honor the “first lady” of
Prentiss Institute  Rosie “Doll” Hathorne- Hooker with an appreciation
banquet.
During the appreciation banquet, Hooker was recognized with the
Lifetime Achievement Award and received a resolution presented by
Jefferson Davis County Supervisors Michael Evans and Bobby Rushing.
The Resolution states that the Jefferson Davis County Board of
Supervisors hereby honors Rosie “Doll” Hooker as an asset to the
citizens of Jefferson Davis County and expresses gratitude and sincere
appreciation for her years of service to Prentiss Normal and
Industrial Institute, the county and its citizens.
Hooker has a long history with Prentiss Normal and Industrial
Institute beginning as a student in the high school graduation class
of 1942 at Prentiss Institute.
She was later recruited by wife of the founder of Prentiss Institute,
J.E. Johnson, to work in the office of attorney Onette Johnson on the
Prentiss Institute campus.
Years later, she joined the Prentiss Institute Board of Trustees
leading board members in the restoration of many of the buildings on
campus starting with the cafeteria, the little theater, the science
building and finally the historic Rosenwald Building in 2013.
