Sam Davis

Funeral services with full military honors, for Mr. Sam Davis, were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2019 at the New Chapel United Pentecostal Church.

Mr. Davis, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019 at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Collins.

Rev. Ken Hickman, Rev. Ronnie Turner and Rev. Louie Davis officiated and interment was in the New Chapel United Pentecostal Church Cemetery.

Saulters Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Jason Ainsworth, Justin Ainsworth, Jeremy Johnson, Jacob Davis, Kevin Davis and Chase Davis. Honorary bearer was Anthony Lopez.

Mr. Davis was born on Jan. 5, 1924, in Jefferson Davis County to Melvin Marion Davis and Myrtie Mae Dossett Davis.

In 1945 Mr. Davis, then 21 years old, was in Europe with the 41st Armored Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Armored Division.

He was with the first troops into Berlin after the Battle of the Bulge.

He later worked with Georgia Pacific in yard maintenance.

He was a member of New Chapel United Pentecostal Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his wife of  65 years, Quilla “QT”Davis and three brothers.

Mr. Davis is survived by fout daughters, Deborah Sue Walker of Crosby, Martha Kaye Ainsworth of Collins, Evelyn Renee Bankens of Ellisville and Tammy Lanette Nichols (Roger) of Mobile, Alabama; four sons, Samuel Richard Davis (Penny) of Jayess, Michael Marion Davis of Collins, Darren Keith Davis (Charlyn) of Ruth and Sammy Marquette Davis (Melita) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; 21 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one brother, Rev. Louie Davis (Rachel) of Grand Bay, Alabama and 1 sister, Evelyn Joyce Ranager (Julian) of Prentiss.

Visitation was Friday, Aug. 9, 2019 from 9:30-11 a.m. at New Chapel United Pentecostal Church.
