The deadline to participate in the fall festival is Oct. 25.
“We are asking anyone that wants to participate, to come by our office by Friday at 5 p.m.,” said Jefferson Davis County Tax Assessor Kelley Ross-Brown. “We will not be able to accept anyone after Friday afternoon. We will begin marking off spaces Monday morning.”
Ross-Brown and her staff are continuing the preparations for the fall festival to be held in downtown Prentiss on Oct. 31. The event will take place from 6 – 8 p.m.
“Please do not bring your children before 6 p.m.,” said Ross-Brown. “People will still be setting up before 6 and judging will be taking place. I can’t stress this enough.”
Participants can begin setting up their space at 4:30 p.m.
The festival them is, “Disney comes to JDC.”
“Participants can use anything Disney. Movies, characters, anything,” said Ross-Brown.
The registration fee for a general site is $5.
For sites that are selling items, the price is $10. Political candidates’ sites are $25.
Only sites adhering to the Disney theme will be judged and are eligible for prizes.
The money from the registration fees will be used to pay for the rental of rides and games available to the children.
New to this year’s festival will be train rides and a human gyroscope ride.
Train rides will be $1 per ride, while the human gyroscope will be $2 per ride.
“You do not have to park a car on your site and use your trunk,” said Ross- Brown. “You certainly can, but it’s not required. You can decorate your area any way you would like.”
The family-friendly event will be held on Columbia Avenue from the courthouse to the old bank building.
“This has been such a successful event that we ran out of room last year,” said Ross-Brown.
“The town has agreed to close off two blocks, so we are moving to main street. It is a good problem to have!”
