Largest crowd ever at fall festival

Holley Cochran/The Prentiss Headlight—Pirates of the Caribbean (above) was the theme for the JDC Tax Assessor’s office at the 2019 fall festival. Children walked the plank before receiving their candy. Hundreds of children enjoyed the event held Halloween night on Columbia Avenue in Prentiss.
The third annual fall festival and trunk-or-treat in Prentiss was a huge success and brought the largest crowd to date.
Over 35 buinesses and individuals set up an area to pass out candy to hundreds of children.
Those participating were Go Getters, Zeta, Eureka Arts Club, JDC Superintendent’s Office, Save the Children and AIRS, Prentiss Public Library, Liz Dyess, Five County Family Service, JDC Circuit Clerk and Elections Commission, Town of Prentiss, JDCH, Van Barnes, Tami Evans, CPS Child Protection Services, The Prentiss Headlight, Tresses, April Bryant, Maritza Johnson, Kim Gholar, JDC Chamber Partnership, Edna Geeston, Johnson Funeral Home, JDC 4-H, Prentiss Baptist Church, Jenny’s, JDC Sheriff’s Department and Shonda Burre.
Those selling food were E & G Swap Shop and Faye Boothe. Brenda Martin sold jewelry.
Political candidates participating were D’mario Boothe, Jurtyne Youngblood, Willie Williams, Ronald Barnes, Henry McCullum and Charles Reid.
Those that made donations were Terry “Red” Mathis, G.W. Transportation, Jerry Gholar, Linda Speight, Wes Daughdrill, Charles Reid, Bobby Rushing, Laura Jefferson and Tina Ball.
The festival theme was, “Disney comes to JDC.”
Sites were judged on creativity, appearance and group spirit.
First place winner was the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Department. Second place went to Shonda Ard Burre and third place was awarded to the Go Getters.
New to this year’s festival was a train ride and a human gyroscope ride.
“We are thrilled with the support this event has been given,” said JDC Tax Assessor Kelley Ross Brown. “We hope next year will be even bigger and better.”
Because the event has grown, a fall festival planning committee will be formed next year to assist with ideas and planning.
