Emma Jean Smith

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019 at Progress M. B. Church in Bassfield, for Mrs. Emma Jean Smith, 77, who died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019 at her residence. Minister Mary Echols officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Emma Jean Smith was born in Jefferson Davis County in Bassfield, to the late Lillie Bell and James T. Harper.

She received her education at Carver High School and worked at Sanderson Farms and retired. She was married to George Smith, two children were born to this union.

She was preceded one son, Edward E. Barnes; two brothers, Booker Thomas and Edward Harper.

She is survived by: two children, George Smith of Bassfield,  and Latascha Smith of Lithonia, Georgia; Pamela (Charles) Myers and Janice Barnes both of Bassfield; one sister, Lyndia Harper of Beaumont, Texas; 18 grandchildren, one of which was her caretaker, Sparkle Barnes.
