Vurgie Trovoy Barnes

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, at Prentiss First Missionary Baptist Church in Prentiss for Mr. Vurgis Trovoy Barnes, 48, who died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019 at his residence. Rev. Ronnie Barnes, pastor, officiated with interment following in the Holloway Family Cemeteryin Carson. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Vurgis Barnes was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Chevlion Barnes and Willie E. Burnett. He was a member of Carey Tercentary A.M.E  Church where he attended Sunday School, plays and speeches. He graduated from Proviso West in 1991 and worked at UPS until he moved to Prentiss. He worked at Hill Top Construction until his health failed. He was raised by his grandmother, Berlena Barnes.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Elmer and Berlena Barnes; Jessie and Willie Burnett.

He is survived by children Victoria Barnes of Glendale, Wisconsin, Natalya (Julius) Hebert of Beaumont, Texas; Travaris McCullum of Mendenhall; Al’Dalya Hall of Oklahoma, City, Oklahoma and Tujari Oatis of Prentiss; two grandchildren; fiancé, Keshia McNair of Prentiss and many other relatives and friends.
