Donald Earl White

Graveside services were held Thursday, June 11, 2020, at Point Pleasant M. B. Church in Mt. Olive, for Mr. Donald Earl White, 79, who died Saturday, June 6, 2020, at his residence.

Rev. Johnny Mosely Jr. officiated with Johnson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Donald White was the second child born to the Martin Luther White and Josie Mae Holloway White.  He joined Mt. Zion M. B. Church at an early age and was faithful until he later moved his membership. He graduated from J. E. Johnson High School and later obtained his B. S and Masters Degree from Jackson State University.  He played baseball at JSU and was an avid supporter of JSU sports.

Mr. White had a long and successful career as a teacher and coach.  He was the first black baseball coach at Magee High School.  He taught in Greenville and Smith County and spent most of his career at Magee High School and Prentiss Elementary.  His coaching also included Point Pleasant baseball teacms for many seasons.

He was married Miss Joyce Gray and later moved his membership to Point Pleasant M. B. Church where he served faithfully until his health declined.  He served as Chairman of the Trustee Board for many years.

Mr. White became a successful produce farmer when he retired.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Martin White; two sisters, Wanda Walker and Edna Howard.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce White; two sisters, Imogene White and Brenda Wilkerson; special niece, Cynthia White; goddaughter, Canteau’ Gray; devoted sister-in-law and niece, Julia Faye and Jonia Weathersby; faithful and deligent cousins, Glenn and Donnell Gray and Monroe Strickland; many other relatives and friends.
