James Ernest Jackson

Graveside services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2020, at the Victory Baptist Church Cemetery in Bassfield for James Ernest Jackson, 101, of Hattiesburg, who passed away on Friday, June 26, 2020, at the Brookdale Senior Living in Hattiesburg.

Dr. Nathan Barber officiated the services with interment following in the Victory Baptist Church Cemetery in Bassfield.  Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins was in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers were family members and friends.

Mr. Jackson was born on Nov. 27, 1918, in Prentiss. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother.  Mr. Jackson was employed in the pipe line industry for numerous years.  He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, and served as a military police officer during his tour of duty.  Mr. Jackson was a member and deacon of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Hattiesburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edgar Jackson and Nannie Clyburn Jackson; his wife, Vondee Rutland Jackson; his daughter, Cindy Jackson Bowers and eight siblings.

Survivors include one son, David M. Jackson of Hattiesburg; two granddaughters, Laura Jackson Torquati and her husband, Paul of Austin, Texas, and Elana Jackson of Birmingham, Alabama; one great-grandson, Isaac James Torquati of Austin, Texas; one sister, Lois Broome of Bassfield and a host of nieces and nephews.
