A second COVID-19 mask distribution in Jefferson Davis County was successful over the weekend.

Masks were distributed Friday at J. E. Johnson Elementary in Prentiss and Saturday at Jefferson Davis County High School in Bassfield.

According to Jefferson Davis County Emergency Management Director Jocelyn Ragsdale, over 7,500 masks were dispersed.

“The numbers are continuing to go up within our state and Jefferson Davis County,” said Ragsdale.

“Let’s continue to be safe. Continue to wash hands, refrain from touching face, eyes, nose, mouth and please practice social distancing.”

There are now 103 cases in Jefferson Davis County and four deaths according the Mississippi State Department of Health website Tuesday  morning.

“Please continue to practice social distancing and protect yourself by wearing a mask and gloves, as well as using hand santizer,” said Ragsdale.

The first mask distribution was held at the end of May. A total of 8,350 masks were dispensed to county citizens.

The CDC recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings and around people who don’t live in their household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
