Many Jefferson Davis County voters are receiving cards in the mail stating they may no longer be registered to vote.

The cards are from an individual claiming to be volunteering for the Mississippi NAACP.

Those that receive the card are asked to check the status of their registration online or call the Jefferson Davis County Circuit Clerk.

According to officials, the cards are not from the Mississippi NAACP, nor did the NAACP authorize them to be sent.

“Whoever is sending the cards, is using an old voter database that is not current,” said Jefferson Davis County Circuit Clerk Clint Langley.

“Unless you have moved or changed your address, your voting status has not changed since the previous election.”

The Jefferson Davis County Circuit Clerk and election commissioners are taking all necessary steps to assure voting citizens are protected from COVID-19 while voting in the General Election on Nov. 3.

Hand sanitizer and gloves will be at all voting precincts. Voters will exit the precinct in a different door in which they entered. Plexiglass will provide a barrier between voters and poll workers.

Voters will be given their own “I Voted” pen to sign their name in the poll book so there will be no sharing of writing instruments.

“We are going to do everything we can to keep our voters and poll workers safe during the election.”

Voter registration is allowed up to 30 days prior to the election. Those that are currently 17 years of age, but will be 18 on election day, are allowed to register.

Absentee voting will begin 45 days prior to the election at the circuit clerk’s office  Absentee ballots can be mailed to those in the county that are disabled.
