Mrs. Rubia Mae Hartzog (born Ruby Mae Myers), was born to the late Emmitt and Nitha Myers on Dec. 14, 1916, in Lawrence County.

At an early age, Mrs. Rubia gave her life to Christ and joined Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully.

On March 13, 1937, Mrs. Rubia married Mr. Johnnie L. Hartzog; and to this union five children were born.

After marriage, Mrs. Rubia moved her church membership to Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a member until her death.

Mrs. Rubia, a Heroines of Jericho, worked many jobs throughout her life. Jobs include farming, housekeeper at Jeffersonia Hotel, Edward Hyman Sewing Factory, Head Cook at Jefferson Davis County Nursing Home, Collinwood Poultry Plant, and The Universal Manufacturing Plant where she retired at the age of 65.

Some of her favorite things to do include: reading her Bible and other Christian literature, cooking and coloring.

Mrs. Rubia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters: Ethel Brooks, Essie V. Ward, Genevia Williams, Johnnie Magee, Wilma Laird and Georgia Halloway; brother, Emmitt Myers Jr., two children: Jerlean Wiliams and John E. Hartzog;

and two grandchildren: Melissa White and Gregory Hartzog.

Mrs. Rubia leaves as her legacy three children: Mary (Carvis) White, Emma Gail (James) Owens and Ruby (Artee) Moore.

She also leaves to cherish her memory a son-in-law, Willie L. Williams and a daughter-in-law, Christine Hartzog, 17 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Her memories will also be cherished by Derek (Maggie) Durr and Larry Weathersby whom she loved as her own.
