Robert Garner

On Sept. 10, 1963, during Hurricane Betsy, Robert Dale Garner was born. He was the son of Ms. Martha Garner and the late Charles Garner. He grew up in Carson. Madonna his older sister was among those family who welcomed him in the world. Robert and his sister were always together.

As a child he enjoyed riding motorcycles among other things.

After graduating in 1983 from Prentiss High School. He attended Jones Jr College and then the University of Southern Mississippi.

Mr. Garner was full of life. Traveling for work as a carpenter always enjoying making things with his hands.

Then he met Sonya Smothers and settled down. He was married to the love of his life for 22 years. They raised four beautiful kids and loved every minute of it. They still traveled some, hung out at the beach and going to the Sebring races in the spring was a special event to him.

He loved to cook and create new recipes for them while dancing and singing especially to Jimmy Buffet.

Eventually he had to go on dialysis, but it didn’t slow down much.

Then he had his first of two heart attacks. He was forced to retire. He hated that. Sonya and Robert moved from Florida back to Mississippi in May 2020,. He got to spend 2 glorious months in his new house before he got sick. Once he had the massive stroke, there was nothing anyone could do for him. On Aug. 6, 2020, he became an angel and is no longer in pain.

He is survived by his wife, Ms. Sonya Garner of Carson; mother, Ms. Martha Garner of Carson; sister Mrs. Madonna (Jimmy) Battenfield of Brandon; one daughter, Mrs. Tiffany (Drake) Garmin of Jacksonville Florida; three sons, Braxton Lassiter of Bartow, Florida, Chris (Brandy) Bragg of Auburndale, Florida and Doug (Kayla) Odell of Bartow, Florida; six beautiful grandchildren and many nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles. He will surely be missed all who knew him.
