R3SM, Inc. (Recover, Rebuild, Restore SE MS) partnered with the Women in NAACP of Jefferson Davis County for their  annual Wellness Workshop for Mother’s & Daughters last weekend.

President Queen Sutton and State Chair Linda Spight with the NAACP volunteered on the Long Term Recovery Committee and helped facilitate the event.

The program was held at Lucas Church in Prentiss.

There were topics ranging from body development, sexual awareness, self-image and positive self-esteem.

Rev. Annie Louis Jackson in conjunction with her church, New Covenant Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, donated personal hygiene items and Southern Miss T-shirts for attendees.

Jackson also serves on R3SM’s board and is Director of Canopy Children’s Services Link program,

R3SM Executive Director, Mavis A. Creagh, also spoke on R3SM, Long Term Recovery and the importance of partner agencies such as The Pinebelt Foundation, MS United Methodist Conference (UMCOR), Presbytery of MS, Lutheran Disaster Service and MEMA.

The goal of the Long Term Recovery Committee is to aid in the county’s recovery following current disasters and prepare for any future disasters.

“We are grateful and thankful for all of the local churches, ministries and volunteers for assisting in any way big or small,” said Creagh.

“Local volunteers have been extremely faithful in providing case management, volunteer coordination and construction assistance. This is a long term process and we are grateful for anyone who has stepped up to assist in the recovery efforts in any way.”
