Graveside Services, with full Military Honors, were held for Robert S. “Bob” Everard on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021, at 2 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Carson. Father Chinnappa Raj Mark officiated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Saulters-Moore Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

The friends and family of Robert S. “Bob” Everard are saddened to announce his passing on Jan. 27, 2021. Robert S. Everard was born Oct. 20, 1926, in Croghan, New York, the son of Gregory and Lavina Sherman Everard.

Bob attended Father Leo Memorial School in Croghan, New York and later graduated from Pensacola Junior College. He answered his country’s call and joined the Navy in 1943, after enlisting under-age at 17. His parents had to sign his enlistment papers. Bob served in WWII and the Korean War.

Following his many years of service, he went to work for the St. Regis Paper Company in Carthage, New York in 1952, later in Pensacola, Florida and for Georgia Pacific in Monticello where he retired.

Bob married Ann Gibbs in 1956, she preceded him in death in 1987.

Bob was an ordained deacon and was very active in the Catholic Church at St. Peter’s in Bassfield, St. Lawrence in Monticello and the former St. Mary’s in Prentiss. He was ordained a Deacon in the Diocese of Biloxi in 1993. He ministered to the Veteran’s Home in Monticello, hospitals, rest homes and the homebound.

As a runner, he participated in four marathons. On his seventy-fifth birthday, Bob rode his bike 88 miles from Long Leaf Trace to Hattiesburg. Bob was active in the Relay for Life, Birthday Challenge and Run for the Roses in Prentiss. He co-chaired the Run for the Roses for over 30 years, a popular 5-K race in south Mississippi. He also was part of the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2012.

Bob was also involved with the Lion’s Club, was the Grand Marshall of the Christmas Parade in Prentiss, and was a huge fan of the New York Yankees.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Barbara Wells of Landrum, South Carolina; two granddaughters Jennifer Wells of Greenville, South Carolina and Sarah Wells of Charleston, South Carolina; two great-grandchildren Elias and Sarah Jane Sigmon of Greenville, South Carolina; his sister Betty Caskey of Flint, Texas and two brothers Clark Everard of Whitman, Massachusetts, and Lynn Everard of Lauderdale-By-the-Sea, Florida. He was preceded in death by his brothers Roy, Kenneth, Donald and Larry and his sisters Vivian Ferrante, Alice Farney and Doris Tscheschewski. He is also survived by his faithful friend and neighbor Janie Winscott of Prentiss and by his sister-in-law Lois Everard of New Jersey.

According to his close friends, “Bob never met a stranger.” His incredibly warm way of caring for his family, friends and others will endure in our hearts.
