Kermit R. Holloway Jr.

Graveside services were held Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021, at Expose Family Cemetery, Silver Creek, Mississippi for Mr. Kermit R. Holloway, Jr., 77, who died Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, at the VA Medical Center in Jackson.  Rev. Jerry Gholar officiated with Johnson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kermit Holloway Jr. was born to the late Kermit Sr. and Maggie Holloway.  He was a member of Christ Temple Church of Christ Holiness USA in Oakvale.  He attended elementary school at Palestine Community School and graduated from J. E. Johnson High School in 1962.  He attended Alcorn State University and later Prentiss Institute.

Mr. Holloway joined the military in 1963 and served in two overseas duties, Vietnam and Korea.  He was promoted to Staff Sergeant.  After returning to Mississippi, he joined the Army National Guard. In 1991, he was awarded the Army Commendations Medal for exceptionally meritorious performance of duty during Operation Desert Storm, he served as a Petroleum Specialist and retired with 24 years of service.

He was employed at Georgia Pacific in Monticello, Mississippi for thirty six plus years as a crane operator and wood yard operator. He was recognized by the American Inventors Corporation for his invention of the Handy Ramp.

He is survived by his wife, Diana; daughters, S. Mechelle, Carla, Danielle (Robert), Stephanie, Delonda (Cleveland) and Gabrielle; sons, Anthony, Timrek, Kemrek, Rusty and Ricardo; honorary family members, Wayne and James Mariner, Roy Drummond, Coach Alvin Gray and Donald Weathersby; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
