As part of Women’s History Month, the Mississippi NAACP is choosing compelling stories of Black Mississippians who have made strides to help shape Mississippi for the better.

Throughout the month they will highlight the work and achievements of strong, courageous and marvelous Mississippi women.

Dedra M. Johnson of Prentiss was chosen as one of these women.

Johnson was selected for her dedication to her community and commitment in showing that representation matters in all fields.

After years of serving Jefferson Davis County as an avid leader and CEO and Director of Johnson Funeral Home, she became the first female and first Black Coroner and Chief Medical Examiner of Jefferson Davis County in 2019.

“I am humbled,” said Johnson after hearing she was selected.

“Thank you for honoring me. I love my profession and I love my community.”
