On March 4, Det. Richard Browning and officer Deborah Rider with the Prentiss Police Department were assisting the Jefferson Davis Sheriff’s Deputies on an unrelated case when they made contact with Malcom Loftin of Bassfield, and his female companion, Audrey Goar of Sumrall, at the Jeffersonian Motel.

After discovering there was a warrant for the arrest of Loftin, officers began an investigation and discovered drug paraphernalia, a large quantity of methamphetamine and a substance believed to be Heroin in the room.

Loftin and Goar were charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance and booked into the Jefferson Davis County jail. Both have been arraigned and bonds set.

“We are aware the two local hotels in Prentiss are a breeding ground for illegal activity,” said Det. Browning.

“We also understand the hotel management provides a service to the community and these situations are out of their control. For that reason, we are always watching and looking for probable cause to facilitate these types of cases.”

“This is a win! The substances seized will never make it to the streets and in the possession of people who use them.”
