One dead after shooting in Prentiss

A Carson man has been charged with murder in the March 25 shooting of a Prentiss resident.

Skyler Rashaud Jones, 26, of Carson, is being held without bond in the Jefferson Davis County Jail.

Police responded to a call at 1081 Granby Road in Prentiss early March 25, where they found Johnny Demarrio Watkins, 25, dead in the front yard of the residence.

According to officers, Watkins’ girlfriend discovered him in the yard with multiple gunshot wounds and called first responders. Watkins was pronounced dead at the scene.

After an initial investigation, officers issued a warrant for Jones and apprehended him at his mother’s home in Hattiesburg.

Jones made an initial appearance Saturday before Justice Court Judge Ronnie Barnes who denied bond.

The incident remains under investigation.
