Jefferson Davis County Economic Development Director Gary Bass approached the Jefferson Davis County Board of Supervisors Monday about rezoning land on Hwy 84.
The 19 acres the county owns is zoned industrial. Bass requested it to be changed to commercial/industrial. “I would like to get a truck plaza in there,” said Bass. “If we get it rezoned now, it will be ready.”
“We own the land, but it is located in the town and the town is the one that requires the ordinances,” said board vice-president Corky Holliman. “We need to send a request to the town to have it changed.” Holliman made a motion to send the request for the change; Charles Reid made the second.
The Town of Prentiss will follow legal protocol, including a public hearing, to have the zoning changed. The land is between Hwy 84 and the blue former KLH building at the corner of John St. Ext.
In other business during its regular meeting Monday, JDC Circuit Clerk Clint Langley presented the board with options for new equipment to be used for absentee voting.
The board also:
Renewed its agreement with Southern Financial, a collections company used by justice court.
Approved the renewal of lease on Skating Rink building to Rudolph Foods.
Renewed the lease for Five County Child Development.
Approved a school bus turnaround in District 3.
Approved removing old sheriff’s department equipment from the inventory.
Approved the claims and payment of invoices from the 2020 storms.
