Guy Leary Odom Jr.

A graveside service was held at 11: a.m. on Friday, June 11, 2021, at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Bassfield for Dr. Guy Leary Odom Jr., 83, of Bassfield, who passed away Friday, June 4, 2021, at his residence.

Dr. Guy Odom Jr. was a 1956 graduate of McCallie Military Academy in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  In 1960, he received his B.S. in Chemistry at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

In 1965, he graduated from Duke University’s School of Medicine.  In 1971, he served his residency in the Department of Surgery at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana and served a residency at the VA Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Following his retirement in 2001, Dr. Odom remained active in community events.  He became a master gardener in 2005 and constantly was involved in community projects through the Master Gardener Program.

Dr. Guy Odom Jr. was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Guy Odom Sr.; mother, Suzanne Odom; sisters, Linda Odom Cook and Carolyn Odom Little.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marcia Odom of Monticello; sons, Dr. Guy L Odom, III of Seattle, Washington, Dr. Geoffery L. Odom (Karla) of Mobile, Aalabama; daughters, Amber F. Harvey (Christopher) of Bassfield, Meghann C. Sheppeard of Meridian, Kristen K. Lambert (Jason) of Monticello, eight grandchildren; one great grandson; sister-in-law, Janet Wirt of Bassfield; two nieces and five nephews.
