Children cool off at summer reading program finale

Children of all ages are enjoying the summer reading program, Tails and Tales at the Prentiss Public Library and the Dr. Frank L. Leggett Public Library in Bassfield.

Kids enjoyed a water slide in Prentiss Thursday as the program concluded its final meeting of the summer. “We love to give the kids fun activities like the water slide as an incentive to draw them to the program,” said Branch Manager Jackie Miller. So far the kids have had a bubble party, a game day and a chance to pet a live alligator from the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science.

As part of the program, for every 10 books or 10 chapters they read, they receive a $10 reward that they can spend in the Tales to Tails Store. The store will be open until the end of August and children can continue to sign up for the reward program even though the on site reading program has ended.

Miller estimates  50 children at each if the seven programs both libraries have held this summer.  She contributes a larger turnout this year due to the program not taking place last summer because of COVID. The Bassfield waterslide finale will be July 20.
