Bassfield board approves small equipment purchases

The Bassfield Board of Aldermen met Oct. 5 for its monthly meeting.
After approving the September minutes and the agenda, the board received a report from Bassfield Water Supervisor Dawson McClendon regarding equipment needed for the water department. The board approved $2500 to purchase small equipment such as blowers, chainsaws and safety gear for the department.
The board discussed future improvements to the Bassfield Wellness Center and agreed to purchase a piece of exercise equipment from a gym in Collins for the center.
The interlocal agreement with the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Department is still in discussion and no action was taken.
The board is in the beginning stages of planning Christmas in the Park which will be held Dec. 11. Vendors will begin setting up in the The Faler Park that morning, followed by the Christmas Parade at 2 p.m. The theme is A Magical Christmas.
In other business, the Bassfield Aldermen approved the following without opposition before entering into an executive session for an employee matter and adjourning:
Approved to purchase two spotlights for the town.
Approved the town clerk to go workshops in December.
Approved the removal of an old safe off of inventory, and the addition of a new one on inventory.
Approved to lease town property behind Napa for $100 a month, with the city to maintain the landscaping of the property.
Approved the restart of a cleaning service for the city hall and water office.
Approved water adjustments and refunds.
