Four from JDCHS sign scholarships on National Signing Day

Three Jefferson Davis County Jaguar football players and the head of football operations signed Wednesday morning on National Signing Day to further their athletic career. “This is a great day for our school, for these young men and for our county, said JDCH Head Coach Lance Mancuso. “It is something that we have been accustomed to here, and it is because of the hard work these young men put in at a very early age as they come into our system in 7th grade.” Mancuso says what these men have achieved is really for everyone that is associated with the program. “The entire football team, their friends and their teammates, have been with them through every drill, every sprint and every morning workout. This is really for the whole team because everyone has played a tremendous part in this from the teachers to the administrators all the way down.”
Each player thanked God, their coaches and their family before declaring their future college.
Dedrian Alexander has committed to Copiah Lincoln Community College.
Demarrio Booth will be furthering his career at Pearl River Community College Booth was named the Most Valuable Player of the 3A State Championship game. “This is a prime example that dynamite comes in small packages.”
Marcus Ross will be playing at East Mississippi Community College. Ross was named as the Scholar Athlete of the 3A State Championship game.
Malcolm Hartzog was recognized on early signing day and will be playing for the University of Nebraska.
Mancuso also recognized one young man for his hard work that he has done for the team as the head of football operations. “This would not have been possible without the HFO. His hard work has gotten him recognized as well.”
Dewayne Hall will be furthering his education and be a football manager at Holmes Community College. “We could not do it without him he has been a loyal trooper for our football team and football program. We are going to miss him a lot. When he didn’t have to stay after school he stayed, when he didn’t have to get up in the morning, he got up.” According to Mancus, Hall was always there to make sure the players had everything they needed.
“This is a great blessing. These guys are following in a rich tradition, and it takes away nothing that the 50 other young men have done on this football team, but this is a great honor.” Mancuso has been a head football coach in Jefferson Davis County for 13 years.
“We have signed over 60 football scholarships out of this ‘small country school’ as they say.” Mancuso says It doesn’t matter where you come from, it is all about what is in your heart and the attitude that you have.
“These guys are another shining example of our great young men and women that we have at Jefferson Davis County. I couldn’t be more thankful to be in a better place and I’m proud of you young men.”
