Supervisors begin work on new jail site

The Jefferson Davis County Board of Supervisors met for its last meeting of the month Monday in the board room in Prentiss. Board attorney Wes Daughdrill opened with prayer before meeting was called to order.

Corey Dale presented the board with a renewal for liability insurance. The board approved signing with MASIT for the insurance.

The board accepted a bid from Hathorn Construction to replace roofing on the Department of Human Services building with a new metal roof.

A new account was created for the transferring of funds for construction of the new detention center. The board transferred $10,000 as start-up money into the account from oil and gas severance. County engineer Les Dungan discussed the next phases with the board regarding dirt work and clearing the land for construction. The four-acre site in Prentiss is currently being cleared of trees and dirt work will begin when weather permits.  Construction of the building beginning this summer with a hopeful completion date in 2023. The new jail location is just south of the Highway 13 and Highway 84 interchange at the frontage road.

Approved board president signing the solid waste assistance grant application.

Approved monitoring notification on HOME project.

Discussion of chamber office.

Approved rescinding order authorizing annual contribution to the Town of Prentiss and county youth baseball park from recreational budget.

Approved public records request-Smartprocure (purchasing records).

Approved school bus turnarounds in District 1 at 1081 Granby Road and District 3 at 73 Day Care Lane.

Approved employee action forms for Districts 4 and 5.

Approved quote for personal vehicle damage by garbage truck for District 5.

Approved reimbursement to employees.

Approved employees attending conventions and meetings.

Approved payment of invoices.
Approved claims.
