Severe weather likely Wednesday in the county

The National Weather Service in Jackson has indicated that severe weather will be in the area Wednesday. Severe thunderstorms are likely Wednesday afternoon and evening across the region. Damaging winds up to 70 miles per hour and tornadoes are the primary concern. Jefferson Davis County is in the enhanced risk category with the time frame being from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The county is under the significant risk category for strong winds ahead of the severe storms. Sustained winds of 25-35 miles per hour are expected with frequent gusts of 50 miles per hour or greater. Downed trees and power lines are likely, and travel will be hazardous for high profile vehicles. Timing for this event is from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
