Jefferson Davis County Economic Development Director Gary Bass won the 2021 Community Economic Development Award from the Mississippi Economic Development Council for his work with the Bassfield Post Office 125^th Anniversary Time Capsule Ceremony. Bass was presented the award at the annual MEDC Banquet held at the Westin in Jackson on Feb. 3. As part of the award, Bass was given a $1,000 check at the banquet. He donated the check to the Town of Bassfield and recently presented it to Bassfield Mayor Angie Ladner. Bass is branding Bassfield as the “Heart of the Trace.” The money will be used for the purchase and installation of a large heart in Faler Park at the Longleaf Trace. “Because Bassfield is a small town with a big heart,” said Bass.
