Over six inches of rain fell in a short period of time in Jefferson Davis County on Easter Sunday causing flash flooding in some areas. Hail was also reported in Prentiss and other areas in the county. A tornado warning was issued for Bassfield coming just two years after the deadly Easter tornadoes that ripped through the area. “All day I had my mind on the families that lost loved ones in Bassfield during the Easter 2020 tornadoes,” said Bassfield Mayor Angie Speights. “We are so blessed everyone remained safe Sunday.”
No damage to any structures was reported, but several roads were closed due to the heavy rains. County road crews closed Sumrall Road due to flooding. George Deen Road had several culverts and portions of the shoulder washed away in the flash flooding.
